A note from Pastor Travis 9/7/23

Over the past month I have used this space to highlight events that are coming up in our church this fall. Today I want to tell you about the Melrose Alliance Against Violence walk on October 22nd at 4:00.

Our church has walked in this event for many years, but our teams are usually small. This year I would like to have a larger team and raise a minimum of $500. What does MAAV do with the money that is raised? Below, I am sharing some information about the walk from the MAAV website:

“This event has been a long-standing community tradition in Melrose and has served as MAAV’s largest annual fundraiser, raising essential funds for the programs that we offer both in the schools and the community as well as our survivor support services. We also use these funds to expand current programs to meet the growing need in and around Melrose. For instance, we have expanded our Healthy Relationships Curriculum to include elementary-aged students and will be launching a support group for children exposed to violence this Fall.”

If you would like to be part of our church team for the walk, contact the church office, fumc@fumcmelrose.com. If you cannot join us for the walk but would like to donate to our team, please follow this link and look for our team’s page, https://maav.kindful.com/2023-maav-walk.

I know October 22nd seems like a long way away, but it will be here before you know it. So, sign up today!

Before I end this article, a few reminders:

1. Join us at our Victorian Booth this Sunday, September 10th after church.

2. We are still receiving donations of ziti, plain pasta sauce, and frozen broccoli – and also frozen meatballs! – for our “Fill the Freezer” mission event after church on September 17th. Please bring your donations by Wednesday, September 13th. Join us on the 17th for worship, followed by our Pasta Lunch, and our “Fill the Freezer” event.

3. We are receiving donations for the yard sale on Saturday, September 30th. You can drop off your donations at the church, and don’t forget to sign up to help!

See you on Sunday!

Pastor Travis
