A note from Pastor Travis 1/18/24

Earlier this week, I went onto a website to get tickets for an annual event that Sandra and I love. As I logged on, I was excited. I had been on the lookout for when the tickets would go on sale, and I finally saw the notice in a newsletter the evening before. When I got to the website, my excitement turned to disappointment. I was too late. The tickets were already sold out. In just that short time, all of the tickets were snatched up by others who were looking forward to the event too. Sadly, we will have to wait a year for the event to roll around again. Sad, yes, but there is good news too.

Our Haitian Independence Celebration Potluck Fundraiser for Haiti Global Youth Partnership this Sunday at 11:00 is NOT sold out! There is still room for you! Don’t miss the opportunity to have a great meal, enjoy some fellowship, and donate money to a wonderful cause.

But, wait, there is more. You will also have the chance to learn about all of the important ways your past giving has made a difference. This will be a great event, and you don’t want to miss it. You are invited to bring a dish (and a friend or two) and join the fun, all the while making a difference in the lives of kids in Haiti.

Though you don’t need to sign up to join us, we are asking people to RSVP by this Thursday, so that we will have in idea of how many people to expect. This will help us in our last-minute planning. You can RSVP by emailing the church office, fumc@fumcmelrose.com

One more thing – if it is a free potluck, then how is it a fundraiser? We are asking for donations. You can write a check to the church and put “Haiti” in the memo line, bring cash, donate through our website, or use the QR code (scan code using your phone camera, select ‘show options’ and then ‘open link’ – will come up FUMC Melrose – Hit ‘send’ button. Here you can put in $ amount and put ‘Haiti’ in the message line.)

Blessings,

Pastor Travis

Winter Weather Closings

As we move deeper into winter, the possibility of a snow or ice storm on a Sunday morning increases. If we need to cancel in-person Sunday services due to weather, we will send that message via email, post it on social media, and also have it announced on our local TV news stations (and their websites).

We are registered with our local NBC affiliate, and currently are registered with WBZ, our local CBS affiliate, and with WCVB, our local ABC affiliate. You can find a list of closings on your local news channels, or go to any of the following online websites:

https://boston.cbslocal.com/closings

and a list of WCVB closings here:
