A note from Pastor Travis 1/11/24

Well, 2024 if off to an interesting start. We “weathered” our first snowstorm of the year on the very first Sunday of the year. However, thanks to Grace for recording the music ahead of time, Bert for setting up and navigating our PowerPoint/Zoom, Cory for posting it to YouTube so quickly

(if you weren’t able to participate in the service, follow this link https://youtu.be/7YSP12Jt1Kk

And special thanks to all of you for your flexibility and great spirit, the service went very well. That means our church year is off to a great start!

I would also like to express gratitude to all those who have made their Pledge for 2024. Your generosity and commitment are greatly appreciated and will help us to continue serving our community. For those who haven’t pledged yet, we want to remind you there is still time to make your pledge. Offering Envelopes are available for pickup on Sundays before/after worship or by calling the office to arrange for pick up.

Below are some important things happening in the next few weeks:

This Sunday, January 14 is Human Relations Sunday. Monday, January 15 we are participating in the Melrose MLK Day of Service. We are partnering with Haiti Global Youth Partnership, to help the community learn about the rich history of Haiti and how they can help in its current situation. The event will take place 10-12 in Emerson Hall (aka Library) and everyone is invited to participate. For more information visit City of Melrose website:

Sunday, January 21 we are having a potluck at 11:30 to celebrate Haiti’s Independence Day and to raise money for Haiti Global Youth Partnership’s ministry in L’Asile. In addition to the delicious food we will all bring to the potluck, we will be having authentic Haitian dishes and enjoying fellowship. The meal is free but we are encouraging donations to support our ministry in L’Asile. We are asking people to RSVP so we know how much food to prepare, however, even if you don’t RSVP, you are welcome to join us. If you would like to RSVP you can at fumc@fumcmelrose.com

Special Note: Due to the weather and the Zoom worship, we didn’t have communion last Sunday (January 7). We will have communion this upcoming Sunday, January 14th. If you are worshiping with us online, we encourage you to gather your communion elements before the service so that you can participate in it too.

Blessings,

Pastor Travis
