Children & Youth News Fall 2022

Children & Youth News Fall 2022

We have a lot of events and activities coming up! Letters to parents, along with Christian Education interest surveys, are being mailed as we speak. Here are some of our upcoming offerings:

On Sunday, September 11, we will have a Blessing of Teachers and Students during our 10 am service. Although the school year has already started, this is our chance as a congregation to offer a special blessing to those among us who are engaged in education, at any age. Children and youth are encouraged to attend! Feel free to bring your backpack to be blessed (or your briefcase or work bag if you are a teacher).

On Sunday, September 18 (Homecoming Sunday), following the churchwide mission project, children, youth, and parents are invited to join us for a group excursion to an indoor ropes course at the Jordan’s Furniture Store in Reading, MA. This is for all ages, although we do need to know in advance the ages of those who will come, since there is a separate course for children shorter than 48” tall (accompanied by an adult). Parents are welcome to attend. Please RSVP by emailing Jayleigh with the number of children/youth who will attend, and their ages, by September 13. The church will cover the cost of tickets, but please bring money for ice cream if you want to get it afterward! Shared rides from the church are available if needed (meet at 12:30), or meet us at Jordan’s Furniture at 1 pm.

On Sunday, September 25, children and youth of all ages are invited to an in-person baking activity at our church, during the 10 am service. We will be baking in the downstairs kitchen and offering our baked goods to The Food Drive to be distributed to those in need locally. RSVP is not required but is recommended for this activity.

We will continue to offer our Children’s Time and Intergenerational Moments each Sunday going forward. Last Sunday’s service was not filmed (although we did offer a Children’s Time for the inner children of those present!) but typically these are filmed and later posted as separate videos on our YouTube channel (playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqsOoqJu_5Wse4mARQkw_ML0zMKky7Cnn). Children and youth are encouraged to attend in person when possible. Your feedback on content or form is always welcome! It is so important to include a youthful perspective in our Sunday worship.

In-person Sunday school continues to be on offer for those children who attend Sunday morning services. Depending on the results of the interest surveys, we may experiment with different times, but know that if you come to church and are interested in Sunday school, we will make that happen.
