A note from Pastor Travis 7/14/22

Dear FUMC Family and Friends,

One of the great traditions of the summer is summer reading. People find books that they have wanted to read all year but have not gotten to do so, and pack them in their bags as they head to the beach or on vacation. It has become a practice for many prominent magazines and newspapers to put out summer reading lists, as well as libraries and schools. Some people like to read a particular genre in the summer, usually something light and fun while on vacation. This summer I have been reading detective/spy novels. They have not been deep or thought provoking, but it has been a good way to spend a summer evening, while sitting outside enjoying the evening breeze. 

However, even with the light and fun reading of the summer, there is room for something else, such as the poetry of scripture. In the summer we don’t usually offer Bible studies, but we can still both read and enjoy scripture. Below, I have chosen Psalms that you may find a blessing to read this summer. Starting this coming Sunday, July 17, and continuing through the end of August, I encourage you to read one Psalm a day. It won’t take long, but the words will linger on your heart. You will read phrases that you know well but may not have known are from the Psalms, and you will find Psalms that are familiar friends. You will find words that give expression to your feelings, and Psalms that help frame your summer. In short, you will be blessed.
