A note from Pastor Travis

About a month ago, I signed up to receive a poem each day in my email from poets.org.  I love poetry, but lately I haven’t taken the time to read and enjoy it.  I thought that this would be an easy way to enjoy a poem each day, and it would give me an opportunity to discover knew poems and new poets.  However, it has given me a blessing that I didn’t expect – a gift of beauty in life every morning.

Our world is filled with so much bad new recently.  It is hard to watch the news.  It makes me feel depressed as I read the top news stories each morning.  Perhaps, you know how I feel.  There may be some of you who feel the same way.  What I have discovered is opening up my email and reading a poem has been a gift of joy in the morning, and something to which I look forward.

Reading a poem each morning has inspired me to read a psalm each day too.  I have always loved the psalm and used to read one each day.  But I had fallen out of the practice in the last few years.  Restarting this habit has been a gift to my devotion life.

I know not everyone enjoys poetry.  My wife isn’t a poetry person.  But, there are other places she finds beauty every day.  I encourage to find ways to experience joy and beauty each day, and to see how they can be a part of your devotion life.  It is a gift.

Peace and Grace,

Pastor Travis
