A note from Pastor Travis 3/31/22

Dear FUMC Family and Friends,

As I sit down to write this article the weather is cold. It is 39 degrees out and cloudy. We even had a trace of snow the other day. But there are signs of spring too. It will be 65 on Thursday (the day you get this e-news). We may have snow again, but it will melt quickly, as it did on Monday. The ground has thawed and the flowers are beginning to push their way out of the soil. Spring is upon us! We are moving from one season to another, and though the transition may not be smooth, the promise of warmer days is in the air. These moments of warmth hold promise for the days ahead. The first few daring flowers of the season are signs of the beautiful array of colors that will soon color our landscape.

In the church we are experiencing a change of seasons too. We have long been in the season of Lent. We have journeyed together from Ash Wednesday. We have each been encouraged to spend extra time in prayer and devotion. In worship we have sung hymns about the cross. Now Easter approaches. Before we reach there, we still have dark days ahead of us. We must journey through Holy Week. We will wave our palms and dine with Jesus, knowing he will soon be crucified. We must look at the cross and see him hanging in pain. The days of Jesus in the tomb still are before us. Yet, we know that Easter will come, and it is in this promise that we find our hope. It is the anticipation of the joy of Christ’s resurrection that guides us through the dark days of Lent.

I invite you to join us for the special worship services that mark this time of transition:

Sunday, April 10: we will celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem, and the children will make pretzels.

Thursday, April 14, at 7:00 PM: we will celebrate the Last Supper through our Maundy Thursday service.

Friday, April 15, at 7:00 PM: we will reflect on Jesus’ crucifixion at our Good Friday service.

Easter Sunday, April 20, will be a day of joy and celebration. It will be the first time we have celebrated Easter in our building in 3 years.

Invite friends as we make this journey from dark to light, from despair to hope, from death to life.

Peace and Grace,

Pastor Travis
