A note from Pastor Travis 2/5/26

One of the first things I learned about First United Methodist Church when I first arrived here in July of 2019, it is a church that puts faith into action. We are a congregation that moves beyond our church walls into the world in ministry and mission. We work hard and give generously so that God’s grace can be manifest in the world.

Over the past 7 years, I have seen our faith in action in more ways than I can count. This last Sunday was a another example of our boundless generosity.

At our Haitian Independence Day Potluck Fundraiser, we launched a campaign to raise $ 5,000 by our Haitian Flag Day Potluck Fundraiser in May. Five thousand dollars in 4 months is an ambitious goal. However, we are well on our way! Last Sunday we raised $2,265! We are almost halfway to our goal.

The money we raise will be used by Haiti Global Youth Partnership to repair the schools in L’Asile that were damaged by hurricane Melissa last October. One of the schools sustained so much damage that it currently cannot be used. Our gifts will go a long way to help the situation.

Thank you for your generosity

As I said, there are many ways that we are in ministry in the world. Here is one more –

The Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church has challenged the New England Conference to see who can raise the most food to tackle hunger. Seattle is part of the Pacific Northwest Conference. So, let’s beat them on and off the gridiron!

You can help by bringing food items to the church on Sunday as part of our food pantry collection. All of the United Methodist Churches in our Conference will count how much food is collected, and the Pacific Northwestern Conference will do the same. We will compare numbers, and, hopefully, we will be celebrating two victories. Whether we win or lose, those who depend on food pantries will benefit.

Go Pats!

Blessings,

Pastor Travis
