A note from Pastor Travis
Last week, my wife Sandra opened up her computer to work and noticed that Copilot wanted her attention. It suggested that instead of working, she let it plan an ultra affordable 3-day trip to Paris for her. This piqued her curiosity, so she let Copilot do its thing. Sure enough, in less than a second it had planned her trip to Paris-on-the-cheap. Sandra shared the results with me, and we both had a laugh.
One of the cost-saving measures it proposed was to go to the Louvre but not go in. It suggested that instead of paying for a ticket, just admire the beauty of the building itself for free! Sure, the Louvre is a beautiful building, but I couldn’t imagine not going in to view its amazing collection. I began to wonder just how much this idea was saving, so I looked it up.
A standard admission ticket is 22 Euros, that is 26 US Dollars. Can you imagine going all the way to Paris, navigating the city to get to the Louvre, and not going in – all to save $26! Sure, you would be saving a little money but think of what you would be missing. Yes, you would still see the controversial glass pyramid, but you would be missing the Mona Lisa, the Veus de Milo, and the Winged Victory statue.
The more Sandra and I talked about this, the more we thought about faith. There are a lot of people who are satisfied with a basic understanding of faith. They are content to keep their relationship with God very superficial. It can be tempting. A superficial faith doesn’t ask hard questions or make us uncomfortable. It doesn’t demand much from us. Yet, think of all that the blessings and grace of a rich faith life that is lost if we just stay on the surface.
Our church invites us into a deeper faith walk. We encourage each other to continue to ask tough questions and grow together.
This fall, there are many opportunities for us to deepen our faith. Continue to read below to discover a few of them.
