A note from Pastor Travis 3/13/25

This Sunday our scripture passage is Luke 13:31-35.

At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.’ He said to them, ‘Go and tell that fox for me, “Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work. Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed away from Jerusalem.” Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.”

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stone those who are sent to it! How often I have desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!” Can’t you hear Jesus’ love and compassion in this verse? Jesus tenderly called them to respond to God’s peace.

This Sunday we will consider this calling for our own lives. I invite you to meditate on these verses as you prepare your spirit for Sunday worship.

Lenten Study –SOUP AND SPIRIT — Wednesday nights March 12 – April 9, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

If you didn’t join us last night, it is not too late to participate in the study.

We will gather at 6:30 for soup, followed by a time of study and reflection. The study will be hybrid, so you can join us in person or online.

If you can come in person, we encourage you to do so and enjoy the soup and fellowship before the study. However, if you cannot be with us in person, please log on to the link (which I will send before the study) at 7:00 for the study.

We are using the book Entering The Passion of Jesus by Amy-Jill Levine. Levine is a celebrated scholar who has written a number of studies, especially for Lent. Though she is a scholar, she does a great job of helping people understand the complex ideas of the bible in easy to understand terms and will guide us through the last week of Jesus’ life.

We will need volunteers to make soup. If you can volunteer, please sign up on the bulletin board outside of the library (Emerson Hall).

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Travis
