A note from Pastor Travis 5/2/22
Dear FUMC Family and Friends,
This year, we attended our first Boston Marathon. Every year we talk about going, but something always comes up. However, this year we finally got to go. It was a lot of fun, and another thing is checked off my bucket list. (Notice, WATCHING the marathon not RUNNING in it was on my bucket list. I guess that I am not too ambitious). Watching the race also made me feel that I have taken another step in my journey of becoming a New Englander.
I found watching the race a very powerful experience. I was amazed to see the determination in the eyes and steps of the runners and was especially moved by the runners who had prosthetics. The thing that touched me the most was the crowd who had gathered to watch the race. They were cheering for all of the runners and offering words of encouragement. People would call out things like “You got this!” and “Way to go!” There was one runner who had a cramp and had to stop at the medical tent. When he started running again cheers went up for him and people clapped as he ran by them. It was amazing.
People often talk about the hate in the world, and it is hard not to be jaded when you watch the news. Yet, there is another side to humanity too. I saw that side on full display as I watched the race. Cheering on others and offering them encouragement is such a simple thing to do. However, it can be powerful.
We have a wonderful church filled with amazing people who go out of their way to help others. I would love to name all of the ways that I see people in our church working to make a difference in the lives of others, but I would forget people. So, I want all of you to know that I appreciate you. I am thankful for the small acts, that few people even know about, and the large, time-consuming acts. They are all important.
It has been a tough few years. Dealing with COVID has required a lot from us. Yet, our church has become stronger because of the dedication of so many. Our surrounding communities have been impacted by your love and the ways that you reach out in Christ’s name and with Christ’s compassion.
Way to go! When things are difficult, know that you’ve got this!
Thanks for your faithfulness,
Pastor Travis
