A note from Pastor Travis 3/3/22
Dear FUMC Family and Friends,
Yesterday we began our 2022 journey through Lent. It is a journey filled with blessings that will prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter. There are many opportunities from the church this Lent. Below four are highlighted:
1. Lenten Study
We have been invited by a group of United Methodist churches to hold a Lenten Study together. It will be held through Zoom on Wednesday nights starting March 9 at 7:00 pm. The Zoom link is: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5086530577
It will be fun to study with a larger group of people as we grow together. We will be using the study resource A Clearing Season by Sarah Parsons. You can order your copy from any of these links (the last link is directly from The Upper Room):

I have heard through the grapevine that our study book is very popular so you may want to order it soon before they are all sold out. However, you can join the study and participate fully even if you don’t have the book.
2. Haiti Mission
Our ministry partners in Haiti have run out of money for their feeding program, so we are holding a special fundraiser to buy rice. We are hoping to raise $3000 which will buy 200 bags of rice. Each bag will feed an average family for 2 to 3 weeks. You can give directly, either by sending a check to the church or by making a donation through PayPal on our church website (fumcmelrose.com/new-donate-now–be sure to write “Haiti” in the memo line).
3. The Food Drive
The Food Drive has a freezer in our church kitchen in which they store emergency dinners for those in need. You are invited to cook a meal, label it, and place it in the freezer, and when there is a need Jana Gimenez, or someone else from The Food Drive, will use the food to distribute to those in need. There are to-go containers in our church kitchen in which to place the food.
4. Declutter for Lent
We invite you to take a bag, look around the house and find items that you no longer use, and place them in the bag and donate them to charity. We are inviting you to collect one item each day in Lent. One of the places you can donate your items is our church yard sale. Donations for the yard sale can be brought to the church on Sunday, March 27, from 11 am to noon.
May your journey through Lent be meaningful.
Blessings and Peace,
Pastor Travis
