A note from Pastor Travis 2/24/22
Dear FUMC Family and Friends,
Last week instead of my regular article, I gave this space over to a letter from our partners in ministry in Haiti. One of the ways we have been in ministry with them is providing rice to help feed families. This program provides rice for about 500 to 600 families every month, and it has helped feed approximately 1000 families in L’Asile.
Last year, we helped this project in two ways. We gave money that we collected through our fundraisers, such as our two yard sales, and we gave people an opportunity to make a donation in honor of someone at Christmas.
In their letter, they noted that their funds for this program are exhausted, so on Monday, members of our Haiti Mission Team met with members of the Haiti Global Youth Partnership to see what we could do to help. We learned that for $3000 they can buy 200 bags of rice. Each bag will feed an average family for 2 to 3 weeks. Therefore, for the 6 weeks of Lent, we have set a goal of raising $3000. This equals to $500 a week. In the past, we have tended to wait until the end of the fundraiser and given one check for the entire amount. However, because of the urgency of the situation, we will be sending them the money we collect each week.
You can help in several ways. You can give directly, either by sending a check to the church or making a donation through PayPal on our church website (be sure to write Haiti in the memo line). You can donate items for our upcoming yard sale and bring your empty cans to the church this Sunday from 11:00 to 1:00. You can help with the upcoming yard sale by pricing items, setting up and taking down tables, and working at the yard sale.
Thanks for your generosity and love. You make a real difference in the world.
Peace and Grace
Pastor Travis
