A note from our Pastor 11/18/21

Dear FUMC Family and Friends,

This Sunday is both Thanksgiving Sunday and Stewardship Sunday. As a part of our worship, we will be invited to offer our pledges for 2022. It seems natural that we would offer up our pledges on Thanksgiving Sunday, for both our act of making a pledge and our Thanksgiving celebrations are responses to God’s blessing. The Thanksgiving holiday was not yet a yearly national celebration in 1863, when President Lincoln declared that the 4th Thursday in November of that year would be a day of national thanksgiving. In his Thanksgiving Proclamation, Lincoln acknowledged how difficult the year had been as the nation continued to be torn apart by the Civil War. Yet, even during their strife, he saw God’s blessings and felt they should be recognized with a spirit of gratitude. He wrote, “It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefullyacknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American people.”

Though this past year and a half has been difficult, we have experienced God’s blessings. Through our Stewardship Program, we have explored these blessings and reflected on our response to them. This has reminded us that we way we use our resources provides us an opportunity to extend God’s blessings to others. It gives us the chance to express our gratitude to God, and to put our trust in God’s care in the future.

You can share your pledge to the church in several ways. You can bring your pledge card on Sunday or mail it to the church. If you need a pledge card, please contact the church office. Another option is to follow the link below to make your pledge online. It is quick, easy, and safe.

Pastor Travis
