A note from Pastor Travis 2/18/21
Dear FUMC Family and Friends,
One of the nice things about shoveling snow is how it brings out the kindness in people. You would think the prospect of having to clear the snow would put people in a bad mood, but I haven’t found that to be the case. People smile and wave to each other as they are clearing their snowy driveway. They take the time to pile up snow for children to sled down or to use to make a snowperson. Best of all, people shovel out their neighbors’ drives, clear the snow from elderly friends, and use their snowblowers to clear the sidewalks in front of the houses of those of us who only have shovels. Yes, it is cold. Yes, we all dread having to go out to shovel the snow. Yes, there are things we would rather be doing. Yes, I have seen the kerfuffle of people in Boston trying to save their freshly shoveled parking space. Yet, I have also seen people approach the task with gracious hearts and genuine concern for others. I have felt the kindness of neighbors. It has warmed my heart. It renews my hope for humankind.
The next time you are feeling down or hopeless, go out and do something nice for a neighbor. It will put you in a better mood and bless someone else’s day. What can be better than that?
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Travis
